FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a chapbook?
A chapbook is a small collection of poetry, generally no more than 40 pages, that often centers on a specific theme, such as exotic foods or wild animals or Justin Bieber. It’s typically saddle-stitched (like a pamphlet or magazine) and is a format well suited to smaller print-runs.
Poets publish chapbooks instead of full-length books of poetry for a number of reasons, but perhaps the most common is that chapbooks are relatively inexpensive to produce.
Producing a chapbook is an excellent way to give audiences a sampling of your writing and potentially sell your work for a nice little profit.
2. Can Light and Shadow Publishing produce my chapbook?
It’s what we do! We offer a simple publication service to fellow poets who want to give family, friends and new audiences a sampling of your writing. We specialize in small batches at very reasonable rates so that you can test the sales and interest in your writing.
3. Want a chapbook but feel technically challenged in producing one?
There are lots of links and instructions for DIY (do it yourself) for chapbooks. Maybe you have checked out the links and articles and decided that is more than you want to deal with? I work with several folks who can handle the technical aspects of your project. Just let me know and I’ll pass on some suggestions to you. No charge of course. I’d be glad to help make the connections for you.
