The Watkins Glen Writers Group presents a featured reading by Craig Czury as part of the Watkins Glen Reading Series on Monday, April 25th, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Montour House Cafe & Tapas Bar at 401 W. Main St. Montour Falls, NY.
Craig Czury, poet and folklorist, will be reading from his most recent book THUMB NOTES ALMANAC: Hitchhiking The Marcellus Shale, a collection of docu-poems from interviews he conducted while hitchhiking around Northeastern Pennsylvania’s “fracking” region. Regional historian Kimberly Crafton writes in the Preface to Thumb Notes Almanac: “Czury creates a verbal mosaic: fractured pieces of fractured conversations from a hydro-fracked region.” Since 1984, Craig has worked as a poet in schools, community centers, prisons, juvenile detention centers, homeless shelters, and mental hospitals. He earned an M.F.A. degree from Wilkes University and lives in Susquehanna County, PA, where he co-sponsors the Old School Poetry Reading Series and teaches life-writing at the Springville Schoolhouse.
This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers, Inc., with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. An open reading will follow the featured reading after a short break. Please note that we will be meeting early prior to the reading for a meal, snacks or drinks at 6:00 PM. Let’s be supportive since the cafe has so graciously agreed to host us.
